Wireless networks are everywhere nowadays. If you wish to know what networks are available in your vicinity, WirelessNetView can help you. It can detect all wireless networks around you and it can tell you everything you need to know about them, including their signal strength and if they are protected or not. The application is particularly useful when working with a laptop in a public place.

WirelessNetView is distributed as a freeware application, for Windows XP and all later editions, up to Windows 8. It doesn't need to be installed, so all you have to do is extract a file from a ZIP archive. The application doesn't use a significant amount of resources and its only requirement is a wireless network adapter.

Wireless networks are detected automatically and displayed on a clean and simple user interface. The listed networks are accompanied by a vast range of details. Besides a network's SSID and signal strength, you can also find its cipher, HY type, channel frequency and much more.

The aforementioned details are displayed in separate columns. To make the information easier to digest, the application allows you to enable and disable any columns you want, without any restrictions. Furthermore, you can bring up a network's properties on a separate window, copy the information or save it as a file on the hard drive.

Pros

The application is capable of detecting wireless networks automatically. It displays a huge amount of information for each network and it allows you to choose what details to show.

Cons

WirelessNetView may display maximum speeds and PHY types incorrectly on Windows XP. Any wireless signal in your area can be detected and looked up instantly with WirelessNetView.
